About This Journey
Journey Overview
Seven days. Six nights. Every layer of Meghalaya — and then some. Your Complete Meghalaya experience launches from Guwahati Airport with a private transfer to Shillong, the highland capital that mixes colonial architecture with a thriving live-music culture. On day two, the canyon rim at Laitlum — Meghalaya's dramatic end of hills — delivers golden-hour views over gorges so deep the mist never quite lifts. Cherrapunji follows: Nohkalikai Falls in full 340-metre plunge, Seven Sisters cascading across the plateau edge, and the intimate darkness of Mawsmai Cave. Then comes day four, the beating heart of any Meghalaya tour package — the living root bridge trek into Nongriat. Roughly 3,500 stone steps carry you down through subtropical rainforest to the Umshiang Double Decker Living Root Bridge, a two-tiered marvel grown from Ficus elastica roots over centuries. It is strenuous, not suitable for elderly travellers or those with knee issues, and entirely unforgettable. Day five swings east: Mawlynnong, Asia's cleanest village, and then the Umngot River at Dawki — glass-clear water so still that boats appear suspended above the riverbed. This Shillong–Cherrapunji tour package from Guwahati covers it all. Priced from ₹27,000 per person.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to visit Meghalaya for this 7-day itinerary?
October to May is strongly recommended, especially if the Double Decker Living Root Bridge trek is on your agenda. The stone steps at Nongriat become extremely slippery during monsoon (June–September), making the descent genuinely hazardous. October to April also gives you the clearest skies for Laitlum Canyon photography and the most transparent water at Dawki. Late September — when the rains are easing but Cherrapunji waterfalls still roar — is a compelling window.
How do I get to Meghalaya, and where does this package begin?
This package begins with a pickup from Guwahati Airport (GAU) or Guwahati Railway Station on day one. Guwahati is connected by direct flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. From the airport, it is roughly 118 km to Shillong — a three-to-three-and-a-half-hour drive via NH-6 with a scenic stop at Umiam Lake. All ground transport from that point onwards is covered.
How difficult is the Double Decker Living Root Bridge trek, and who should skip it?
The trek to Nongriat village involves approximately 3,500 stone steps descending steeply through dense subtropical rainforest, followed by the same ascent on the way back — a total round trip of four to five hours. It is rated moderate to challenging. Travellers with knee problems, hip replacements, serious cardiac conditions, or limited mobility should avoid this trek. Sturdy closed-toe shoes, at least two litres of water, and a local guide are strongly advised.
What makes the Umngot River at Dawki special, and what will I do there?
The Umngot River at Dawki is one of India's clearest rivers — the water is so transparent that boats appear to float in thin air above the visible sandy riverbed. A boat ride on the river is included in your package. The best visibility is between October and April, before monsoon runoff clouds the water. Dawki sits on the India–Bangladesh border, and the crossing checkpoint adds a distinctive atmosphere to the visit.
What does the package price include, and what should I budget for separately?
Pricing starts from ₹27,000 per person (group of 6) and scales to ₹41,000 per person for a couple. Included: six nights accommodation with daily breakfast, Guwahati airport pickup and drop-off, all sightseeing and transfers by private vehicle, and a Dawki boat ride. Not included: flights, lunches and dinners, monument and cave entry fees, a local trek guide for Nongriat (recommended; approximately ₹600–800 per group), and travel insurance.
Important to Know
- ·The Double Decker Root Bridge trek involves ~3,500 steep stone steps down and back; wear sturdy shoes and carry water; not suitable for guests with knee or mobility issues.
- ·Cherrapunji receives heavy rainfall June–September; trails to the root bridge can be slippery — October to April is the recommended window for the trek.
- ·The Mawlynnong–Dawki day (Day 5) is long; an early 6:00–6:30 AM start is essential.
- ·Best time to visit: October to May for clear skies and safe trekking; June–September for dramatic waterfall volumes.
