Christmas in Shillong

Meghalaya is largely Christian, and in Shillong Christmas is the main festival of the year. Streets and churches are lit up, carol services run through the week, and Police Bazaar is busy every evening.
December is dry and sunny in the day and cold at night, close to freezing in Shillong and Sohra. The Umngot river at Dawki is at its clearest.
On Christmas Day itself many shops and eateries close or open late, and the week is busy, with traffic in Shillong and crowds at the popular spots.
We run a Christmas group trip from 22 to 27 December: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Shillong with a group dinner and lunch, a night at a riverside camp at Shnongpdeng, and Sohra's waterfalls and caves.
Worth knowing
Christmas week is one of the busiest weeks in Meghalaya. Hotels and flights to Guwahati fill early.
